This is the second sketch I have done of the scene. (I've momentarily lost the first and will post it when I find it again.) I haven't added the humans yet because I am still considering the poses. They will basically be stood behind the vole looking disgruntled at being second best. They will also be around the same height.

This was the first sketch... Moved on now. Just thought I'd show it in my planning

I've quickly shaded the image to give an indication of lighting and mood.

I've refined the shading a little making the background darker. I did this by copying area's in photoshop and pasting them onto a new layer then changing the blending option to multiply

Here are the humans which will be stood behind the Uplifted Vole creature and object of the big aleins affections.

The humans are in. I have enlarged the area where the humans are stood and printed it out. I'm going to add more detail to their faces and refine their expressions as according my scene they are disgruntled that the big alien prefers the vole. These I will then rescan and place over the ones in the main image. I will also shade then to fit more to the background...
Then it's onto the colour.
ANy comments are welcome...

The Higher res humans have been added. Going to smooth off that background and add better shading on the platform at the front.

This is getting closer to the depth of shading I want. Still got to smooth the big guy out to the left and bring the humans into focus a bit more.

Gona stop with the shading for now and start laying down colour.

I've started adding colour.

this is very interesting! ... i think the black outlining on the left side should be toned down a bit .. if you compare the shading on the right, it does have some depth ...
me curious to see your next update :p
good luck dude!
Hey Peter, nice idea ! :) Agree with Neville. Maybe you can put more light on the background part of tha cave ( like a light beam) to gain deep on your image, only a comment :) Cheers mate !
