View Full Version : Stills: SSS Test
Serial Killer 05-07-2003, 06:39 PM This image was to experiment with a wax shader and also with the extrude along a path tool

Here are some images using a single texture just to test translucency
This took 10 min to render.

This took a little longer 45 min.
http://www.bandaelrecodo.com.mx/images/Cell2.jpg
And this one took a lot more like 4-5 hours

Hey, can you give some more information about your shader? Did you use a 3dsmax plugin render to get thiws effect, or is this a shader you wrote for mentalray/maya/renderman? If the second is true, then could you tell us what method you used to get the effect?

Sorry but this is a wax shader wich comes with Brazil and I was testing it before using it to make skin shaders.
But if you still interested in it I can tell you how it was done.

Those Brazil Shaders are very special indeed and you've put the wax shader to great use here, especially in the 4-5 hour render; it looks like a big box of Brains, Nice!
mmmm! sss /me drools uncontrollably  :d~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hah, fun images. The red balls remind me of Boston Baked Beans. :)

I can see your photons, inscrease the photon count, or radius.

This wasn't render with photons, if talking about the tree it got a cellular map in the translucency map

Cool shader! I really like the second image of the blob thing. Looks very realistic. :buttrock: :buttrock:

yeah the translucency really adds something here, looks like a candy or a strawberry ;) Only the last image the translucency is hard to notice.. don't know whether that's good or not, but it looks like it isn't there..

Just curious what your settings are in Brazil.

Yes a like the "strawberry" image too :scream: it looks like a soft candy I would really like to give it bite  the last image doesn't look so translucence cuz are a lot of them and the ray lights it's absorbed I think but it acts like real life.
The setings well.. it's just a simple wax shader I tryed everithing lots of samples and nothing good happens until I turn the two sided on :hmm:, like in the example files that comes with brazil, if you want I can post the file and a little explanation of it but you will need Max 5 and Brazil v.1 I gess also can do something with Brazil basic material.
Let me know cheers:bounce:

just one comment: all the meat balls in the last picture are exactly the same. see if you can make a few variations when the texture is rotated around.

meat balls  humm..
as I said before this was a quick test of translucency and a very fast arrange of spheres so I didn't rotate'em maybe later with more time
