Hi, this is my first post on CG Talk, a forum I've more than once browsed with delight. I recently heard about this contest and wanted to try myself at this difficult challenge.

So, there I am:thumbsup: I hope my contribution will stand up to the high standards of this community.

Now, to the challenge. After thinking it over a while, I decided I would go for an invoker. The base is that of a shark and the artifact is based on darkness. I still have to work it out, but I would like the idea of it being some sort of octopus or squid and that out of the dark etheral ink it produces, ominous creatures of the abyss surge to either bite, torment or swallow the ennemy. I thought of a shark jaw for the moment, but I guess I will improve the idea. So anyways, there we go.

Hi, I posted the thread yesterday but it did not appear at first cause my registration was not yet complete. So in the meantime, I've been able to keep the searching. hence the two posts in a row :).

After doing the first sketches yesterday, I thought to myself: 'if my artrifact is squid based, then, maybe I should go for a spermwhale instead of a shark ... and it should be more original too." Though I've searched for a good hour and a half before figuring how to convert the spermwhale difficult shape into something more human, I think I'm now getting to it.

Next step will be to think how to clad our invoker and how to design the artifact. Any suggestion welcome.

Okay, let's keep this going. So I've tried to see how to mix the Squid and the Spermwhale. Since I thought the whale had been somehow corrupted by the Squid's Dark powers, I've tried to wrap the Squid around him, with a connection to the head. Then I tried a first idea for the artefact : a kind of weird purple tentacle that emits the darkness out of which the spirits of the abyss can surge and attack his opponents.

Now, I have a question for you. A friend of mine told me he thought the spermwhale should be fatter for the viewer to identify the animal more easily. But since my character is an invoker and he has been corrupted by the dark side, I thought a rather skinny look would be more faithful to his personnality. What do you think ? Did you recognize it was a kind of dark spermwhale ? Would you think it still work if he was fatter ? Anyways, here's how it looks so far ::)

I like the concept very much, the way that you do about the shark!, why don't let it be with the "tail fin"?
I think that would be nice if it running on it own fin, no legs and do it more extremely as brutality as a shark do?

please keep going on :)
