Good Start
I am not going to critque some of the poping issues, i will assume those will be fixed.
Also, I am not sure what he is supposed to be doing, or saying , but i took a guess any how.
Slow down the animation it appears that its playing at 15 fps make it 30 fps when animating. If its already at 30 then your going to have make the animation longer by stretching the time. These animations take alot of subtle detail, and you can also look up conversation pieces almost any where on the net in any format 2d, 3d, film whatever.
With that said take this with a grain of salt.

My guess is that he was sorry for pointing the gun at somethingor someone.

When the character steps back he dosent shift any weight he just slides.
Also the Pelvis timing is off when he steps back.

His right foot comes forward and lands to fast.
The pelvis is not rotating backwards or forwards when he rotates or when he shift posistions.
When he shifts posistions shift his weight.

Well I hope this help, I havent used Maya for about 3 years now. Its a good start and keep up the good work.
