View Full Version : Bodypaint question: using multiple images on object

We have a sky object that is clearly very large. It isn't practical to
create a 16K image and paint in it. It would be preferrable to split the
image into smaller separate 4K images.

a) Is it possible in Bodypaint to have separate images across a single
object, like the sky?
b) It would be good to paint across these separate images as though it was
treated as one image.

If this doesn't work, do anyone have suggestions of other possible workflows?

Thanks.

1) Yes, easiest way is to use texture selections and seperate materials (then maximumze the uv's in each selection).
2) Yes, just make sure the paintbrush is enabled on each layer/channel of each material that you wish to paint on.

So for the sky object we'd create say 4 separate materials and assign to each of them a separate image. We'd then assign each material to a selection of faces in the object, i.e. per face assignment of materials.

How does the filtering work across the image edges? i.e. where two faces have different materials and you paint in Bodypaint, I understand that the brush will behave correctly but are there any issues when rendering the final image? Will there be a visible seam due to filtering?

Thanks.

That depends on what filtering you're using and how much of a border you ask Bodypaint to make for you around your UV's (i.e. there needs to be a small gap around your UV's for bodypaint to fill with special border pixels that are specifically there to stop seams from showing, you can set how deep the border is from the preferences) if you're using MIP or SAT that separate out samples then eventually a seam will appear if you view from far enough away but provided you use a proper border and aren't planning on having the camera too far away then that shouldn't be a problem, under normal circumstances it shouldn't be an issue, but you can simply try it out, it'll only take you a minute, and you can work out how big of a borderr you'll need and how much spread in your MIP/SAT (if you even use them).

By the way Bodypaint will support a 16k image if you need it to.
