Title: Minotaur's Leisure
Name: Dimitrij Marufow
Country: Germany
Software: Painter

Or: "Things you can do with Ariadne's thread"

“The Minotaur is quite tired of the never-ending onslaught of heroes trying to defeat him and make a name for themselves in the process.

The only good thing about it is that they occasionally bring useful things into the labyrinth - like glowing threads.”

I made this for a contest on another website. The topic is: "Catacombs"

I used Corel Painter X again here. I love to work with Painter since it almost feels as if I use real oil paints. When I paint I feel more like a sculptor actually, carving a 3rd dimension out or into the 2 dimensional screen. I enjoy this immensely.

Some facts about the painting: everything is brushwork, I didn't use any textures. Obviously used the "glow-brush" a lot. Didn't use any reference as such, no overpainting or anything only looked at my own legs, did a little anatomy research and looked at my own photo of a Greek helmet and a cow. All in all there were about 90 layers in the painting. It took about 4 days of intense work to complete it.

C&C are welcome of course.

I wanted to add this image into the initial post - how do you do that?

The picture is quite nice and the subject manner is just funny. We just don't see enough about how the Minotaur spends his time between killing. Maybe he is making something for his mother's birthday?

I don't want to point out the obvious but he's not killing anyone he sits comfortably and is knitting a sweater from Ariadne's thread - that's how he spends his free time ;)

Thanks :)

It was quite intense work - painting this - got red eyes from staring at the screen lol.
But it's a lot of fun too :)

This image is going to have me giggling all day! LOL All humour aside, it's an absolutely beautiful creation. I've always had tremendous reapect and admiration for artists that work with physical media (Painting, Sculpture, etc.) because I've never been able to invoke those tallents in myself. I'm extremely impressed with style and quality of this image. It's magnificent!

I'll have to check out your web site later. I'd love to see more of your work. :applause:

Best to you always.
