i have a really big problem here :/... when rendering my image comes out clean, but when i save to a jpg file it comes out all blurred even though quality is max, and the jpg "smoothing" option is off (0)...

until now i always saved as an uncompressed tif file, and then saved it as a jpg in photoshop, but now even the uncompressed tif file is blurred??

has anyone ever had this problem? because this is really driving me mad... i've reinstalled max and its still there... it doesn't matter whether i render in brazil or max ( the render is clean anyway, only once saved it comes out crappy...) ... Atm i'm "printscreening" but i cant do that for textures with 2000 x 2000 (texporter), so any help would be really great!!!

thx for any replys ...

let me explain to u whats is jpg.
:lightbulb jpg is a compressd image. it's desgined to take less space and maintain as much as the quality as it can.

when saving in max or any other program to jpg even at quality 100 it will be blurry. save the file as a BMP and it will maintain quality just like it appears on max.

i usually render it into jpg because the quality is very satisfying
and unlike a BMP that will take 1.2MB for a 1024*768 image.
it takes only 300k and if i reduce the quality to 89 then it takes only 150k at top.

hope that helps

bmp, tif, jpg, - .... everything is blurred

if i do a printscreen and put the image in photoshop and then save it as a jpg, the image is crystal clear!!!

i'll post some images when i get home, to show you what i mean...

thx anyway for your reply :)

well, here are two pictures (rendered out of texporter as its especially good to see here):

saved from max, quality = 100,
blurry, especially in the pink sections....

printscreen of the render, pasted in photoshop, saved as quality = 100 jpg, clear/no blurryness in comparison to the upper picture...

see the difference? i didn't have this problem until a few days ago, but noch i cant solve it :/... not even re-installing max helped...

This is very unlikely, but could it be your antialiasing set to a version with more blur? (This would be visible even in the frame buffer though, since it is a at-render effect. :surprised )

Weird problem!

when you save it as a jpg in max, make sure that the smoothing bar is at 0. Hope that helps :D

Do you still get the blurry output with tif, tga, bmp, etc. as well ?

If so - why not post the scene ?

Maybe you can oversample? Render out 2x or 4x the data you need and resample in photoshop... I say this because you are rendering out single pixel lines and any filtering is going to distort the pure output.

BTW - This is the exact mathmatical difference of your JPG's
