hi fellas, i've had this error message come up and make me re-boot about 5 times this morning -

anyone shed some light on it's meaning? all i'm doing is basic material editing and up it pops. i also have Real1 player playing my cd's in the backround.

Never seen this. I'd suspect something else going on outside of Cinema causing this, or a dodgy install. Cinema doesn't do runtime errors :)

it's an odd one.

never had this before. but it is happening at the same point in operations - i'm using rel8.1, but editing a glass material i modelled in Rel.7.

my I.T. manager reckons it's a bug in the C4D code.

Oh well, if your IT manager says so... ;)

It might be because it's a V7 file, but I've never seen this with any of mine, including glassy materials. I assume you're not using any plugin shaders, try recreating the material.

It's not <shudder> Windows 98/ME, is it?

Just an idea:

Copy the material in question, create a new document, paste the material, save it, then go back to your project and import the saved material.

Just a thought...

Hi,
since CINEMA and it's moduls are not compiled with MS Visual C++ it is most likely that the error is produced by a plugin or another program.

Hi Srek,
Are you sure that C4D isn't compiled with VC++? If so then I take it that it's compiled with the Intel compiler.

Why? Because they are the only two compilers that I am aware of (on the PC) that can compile plugins that work with C4D R8, so it seems very unlikely that C4D itself is compiled with anything different.

If you know that they used something else, please let me know what...

Cheers - Steve

Yes, you are right the Intel compiler has been used

maxon just replied :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're sorry to hear that you are getting this error.

This might not solver it, but please try the following:

open the problem scene
group all the objects together
copy them
create a new scene
paste the objects into the new scene
do you still get the same problem with the new scene?

if you still have problems, please can you send us the scene
(simplified
would be a great help if possible) and a 'recipe' so that we can test
is
here and see if we also get the error? Then we can have the programmers
investigate it promptly.

Kind regards,

MAXON Support

so far it's a ok. praps it was a one off annomolly in that scene.

my opinion is this happens because editing a ver 7 scene, and can be related with some old plugins not workin well in r8. i have seen something like this but i don't know when :(
