Title: Mexican Wrestler
Name: Jeff Miracola
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

A Mexican Wrestler, or Luchador, image created for a Masterclass tutorial in Advanced Photoshop magazine issue 41.

Luchadores have always fascinated me because of the colorful costumes and secretive lives they lead. Creating this piece has made me to want to create more. So I will probably be posting more mexican wrestlers soon.

This piece was created entirely in Photoshop without an initial sketch. I used a combination of vector shapes, the pen tool and brushes.

Fantastic Work. I really love the simplicity of your lines and the character design for the wrestler is great. The way you have overlaid texture in certain areas gives it real depth while your use of color really lends itself to a hot a spicy climate.

More than worthy of any master class.

Is the resemblance to Jack Black intentional?

Is the resemblance to Jack Black intentional?

I was watching way too much Nacho Libre before working on this piece. It was just the inspiration I needed. And Jack Black is gonna body slam you if he ever sees you. Because this guy is nasty looking... oh wait, so is Jack Black.

Thanks man!

Yes, I know the rose in mouth is Spanish. This is actually a tribute in ways to one of the first films I saw about Mexican Wrestling called "Una Rosa Sobre El Ring" or "A Rose in the Ring." Well, not much of a tribute seeing as how my wrestler is really, really nasty looking compared to Mil Mascaras :-)

Very good, this mexican aproves it !!
I'm not sure about the lips, cuz they look rather girlish, but I love those typical looking eyes.
If you are serious about mexican wrestling forget about Jack Black, there's like a million mexican wrestling movies made from the 1940's to the 1960's, the list is quite long since this kinda guys became national "heros". "El Santo" (The silver masked man) was one of the biggest and the one who made more movies, fighting against wrestlers, aliens, werewolves, mad scientists and so on.
And also there was Blue Demon, Perro Aguayo, El Rayo de Jalisco, and many more from the old school, in recent years "Mistico" showed up getting huge amounts of fans, "The Canadian Vampire" as well, there's a long history of well known mexican wrestlers, because they tend to make crazzy dangerous acrobatic stunts, and that's why mexican wrestlers are respected by US wrestlers.
