WELCOME TO THE WORK IN PROGRESS THREAD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF MICHAEL J DOWSWELL'S ANIMATION - SERVUS
2007 saw the infamous animation "Errans Alba" being put on hold, with the start of the infamous animation "Servus" (having had a good strong six months of work been done on it) again another very long project. Servus is my sixth solo animation and my first to have facial (though its just going to be eyes) animation happening.
What happened in December was that I jumped again to start work on the Untitled Project, that was very unexpected, but then so was Servus.

One of my problems, or well frustrations?...has always been making a decision and saying "right yes!...Iíll go with that!" and then move on, I sometimes think of a way of making it better further into the cinematography process (the sequence of shots)...THEN sometimes I look at it, and I start to think "this just has something wrong with it" or "this has something I like from it, but, so does the other one"...meaning that things tend to slow down, as a director you really must try to march on sticking by a decision you made in order to see the animation finished!...lol
It *maybe* though that this outside stuff is by far the most difficult to light, especially as its in a desert with not much around it. Cities seem to be a lot easier to light, I think thatís probably what this is.

Today I started to work on another Servus scene, everything posted here is pretty old, but this new piccie was done just today. I'd not gone near the animation in three months. The unfortunate thing about this though is that this one still took thirty minutes to render, going way past my acceptable render time of five minutes per frame.

This is just a quick one here to say that, in my resting period (whereby I cant seem to rest, and end up opening files and fiddling with them) I had a tweak with the city, things are now more leaning towards me working in colour. This is test of that new approach.
CITY SHOT - IN COLOUR:
Thats all for now.

Just a HD test. I've not done much HD but might be doing some in the near future...just one of the many hard decisions you have to make really.

A clip from the slave transport ship departure sequence...still very much work in progress....keep changing my mind about things.
