View Full Version : how to select by tag?
Mars_Artis 05-07-2003, 08:29 AM since u know some times your model is very much complex what if u want to select many differents objects which have the same tag to modify it?
For example the material/shader one:
by the material menu u can do it by selecting in function menu: select material tags, and as result u have all the materials tag selected;
but after that if i wanna change them all with a new material?
P.S.
in electric image there's a fantastic function that let u rearrange in the "object manager" window by master material (the material your object are children of) by parents, etc...

Hi,
after selecting the Material Tags you can simply drag and drop the new material in the AM.

eh,eh i think i found it, it should be the lock icon in the AM that enables this kind of parenthood.
I think that my dumbness comes out by coming out from EIAS experience.
Sometimes i look at the manuals but i can't find what i'm lookin for

not the lock, if you want to set all the lights parameters to teh same value, just select them all and change any parameter you want to be the same in the Atributes Manager.

mmm, i think there should be some way, infact referring to this tut:
http://www.3dluvr.com/carles/tut01en.htm
u can read in the liting set up:
quote:
"To simulate the first bouncing light from sun, I used two lines of blue omni lights (8 lights each line) placed along the "street". They are instances from a "master blue light". It's easy to adjust because you need only adjust the Master to have the change propagated to the 'cloned' lights."
Anyhow, what's that lock for?? i'm reaally gettin crazy in the cinema manual trying to find answers to my doubts
With the lock you can fix the AM in the current state so when you select a different object the AM stays connected to the old object.
Cheers

Select the light you want to be the "master" in the object manager. Go to Object menu > modeling > Incstance. This will create a new object named Instance in the object manager. The instance should have the light you had selected already defaulted as it's reference object. I usually then go to the Function menu and Transfer postion and rotation of the instance to the "main light". Then move the instance where I need it and start to copy and past the instance as I need more lights. Hope that helps.

Or if you want some but not all parameters controlled by a master you can use set driven keys. Unfortunately this doesn't work for setting relative brightness, though.

thx for reply,
when swapping the manual pages, i noticed the instance object but for my rush i did not relay on it since i thought it was not related to what we are talking, my fault.
about the frame thing, before asking what's that, i'll try duggin in docs to search by myself.
