I have friend, who is really like anime, but always tell me that how bad that anime style was. He told me "if you do anime style, US company would not hire you." Is it true? What do you guys think?

I was thinking that, unleast you didn't just do anime that would be fine.

Uh, as far as I know U.S. Companies don't mind if you do Anime. A lot of American's like Anime.

i have talked with companies that said that they like anime of course, but they hate seeing it on demo reels.
why?
there are so many people out there that try to imitate anime and do a very bad job.
and who want to see dozens of demos that have characters that look like dragon ball z characters.

there are good artists out there, but alot of people that try and imitate anime don't learn the basic traditional style first.

why hire a person that can only try to draw anime and nothing else?

most people don't get the point that most of the japanese artists learned the traditional skills first. and that it REALY helps.

Art is an expression of yourself. You should do whatever that interest you to the best of your ability. Otherwise it doesn't matter if you do anime or realistic or whatever style, the outcome will suck.

If I were you I would play it safe and show that I could do more than one style - anime is fine, but as secretasianman says, you need to have traditional skills too - concentrate more on skill base and maybe even developing your own style. I know a company based in the UK that tends to pick out traditional artists as their digital artists because they know that they can teach them the skills of using Maya/Softimage/Whatever.

Oh yeh, and I think this thread should be in General Discussion, not WIP.

That's my tuppence worth.
