View Full Version : Need Help with Maxon Demo
daybe 05-07-2003, 02:41 AM I have downloaded the Cinema 4d demo and Have been using it for a couple of days, It rocks BTW, I have found some tuts and have been working through a car tutorial but I am lost and can't seem to find my way. Here's what I am trying to do.
"Using the structure manager, copy and paste these points into an empty polygon object, so you have a new polygon object made up of nothing but the copied points. "
I have tried this but I must be missing something because nothing is happening, I am not sure If I am creating a empty polygon object correctly.

Hmm... try building the polygon from the assembled points. Once you've pasted them in, go to either one of the following:
Structure > Bridge
Structure > Create Polygon
... and build the polygon. Hope that helps!

Thanks for responding so quickly, But I guess I should have mentioned that I have tried to copy the points from a spline object and nothing seems to happen when I go to paste them into the empty poly object.

Hmm... I tried it for myself, and sure enough, attempting to copy and paste points from a spline simply results is a duplicate of the entire original spline.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe one of the more experienced minds on this board can offer a solution?

Well, thanks for trying anyway, At least I know it's not just me, I try and figure something out.

Hi,select the spline that you are going to copy the points from and change it's type to linear in the Attributes Manager, then go into the structure manager and make sure it's in points mode, select the points and copy.Next go to the Objects menu and choose Polygon Object (2nd in list),this will create an empty polygon object, select it and then go back into the structure manager and make sure it's still in point mode and then paste the points in here. The trick is that the spline you copy from must have linear interpolation,
hope this helps,
JDP
also since a spline point carries more information that a normal point. you can also do this, select your points go to structure manager, choose export to ascii data, export it, then load the ascii data into the object where you want it to be in.

Cool, thanks for your help, seems pretty straight forward enough.

I think there is a much easier way to go about this. Just copy the object, and delete the points you don't want.

JDP, that worked perfectly, exactly what I needed.
Thanks to all that took the time to respond.
