View Full Version : Car: McLaren F1 LM
rocarpen 05-07-2003, 02:21 AM This is my first model in Cinema 4D. A part of me wishes that I'd picked an easier vehicle to tackle than the twisty, flowing McLaren, but the challenge has been enjoyable so far:

Nothing too exciting, still quite a ways from modeling completion, obviously (the spoiler is conspicuously absent). I think I've captured the primary lines and general 'feel' of the vehicle though. My previous experience with 3D is limited to a few months with 3DSMax 4.3. I'm primarily self-taught - currently a hobbiest looking to add 3D to my design abilities.

You are doing a very good replicate of the car. the only thing that got my eye is the joint where the hood meet the front-bottom part, near the light look to be not following the hood line correctly. Beside that, i wanna see more :) .

Man the lines on that car are so fluid. I wish I was as talented as you are at making cars...

Looking foward to see the result. I like this car, it`s the world fastest serial made car.

Hi!
Nice model! Im trying to make the same car but in 3ds instead, what type of concept images do you use? The ones I have are very VERY low rez :(

Yeah, I've got the same problem. It's so much easier to model objects if you have something physical you can observe first hand. Since my garage is devoid of McLaren's (heck, since I don't have a garage at all), I've had to scour the net for good images.
Tell you what, head over to:

... and you'll find I've posted the images I'm using. Help yourself! But beware the blueprints (courtesy Suurland)... they don't quite match up. :surprised
Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone. I'll post an update later today (Wednesday).

Hey, nice start. Looks nice and clean. I finished my McLaren a while ago. Meant to be animating it, but just got no time..
Do search on the forums, you should come across my thread.
I too had numerous problems with blueprints not matching. Also my scale model is completely inaccurate. :/
Keep up the hard work :)
