Hi guys! I'm trying to unwrap this model:

And I'm having some problems with the unwrapping. I tell you. For example, the head. I tried to use a cylindrical mapping for that, but the polygons between chin and neck don't map well. So i've tried four or five planar mappings: one for the face, another for the side view, one for the top and another for the back...

Obviously, it has some distortion I've gotta correct...

So I tweak the UV's for trying to correct this...

Now, after this very long introduction, I ask you: Using the checker pattern, in which view I have to test that there is no distorted mapping? I mean, if you see the image above, the left head is viewed from the "planar map" view, and the right one is a little rotated. After manipulating the UV's, the right head seems to be OK, without distortion, but the left head is messed up...

So can you give me some help for avoiding it? Or maybe some advices for unwrapping, 'cos I want to learn it... and I'm getting mad :applause:

A lot of thanks!!!

Don't get too mad, it seems like you've got the basics down already anway :D

Maybe just fix the distortion in perspective view. What you're doing wrong is projecting multiple planar maps at different angles, and then editing uv's in your unwrapper so they're effectively forming a single planar map that is projected at the viewport's angle (eg the back of the head you've posted.) On a curved object the checkers will always distort, and the distortion will change with whatever view you take. Only surfaces that are lined up perpindicularly with your view should have even checkers.

hmm, not sure if that helps or not. Just keep rotating around your model!

:surprised
