So I keep getting these wierd artifacts.
Details:
Box modelled
Reflection map = Raytrace
Diffuse map = Mask (To create dirt)
Mask off, Raytrace map on = artifacts go, and reflection works fine.
Mask on, Raytrace map off = artifacts go, mask works fine, but obviously thing's are matted
3D Studio Max 5.1
Mask is a .PSD file created in photoshop (Also tried with .BMP, same)
The problem seems to be when I mix the mask with the raytrace map. The artifacts don't always look the same, depending on various settings (Whether the mask has a dirt layer underneath, etc). Sometimes they are small and white, sometimes they are large, random, black squares. Sometimes a mix.
Thanks in advance, this problem has halted the production of an almost finished model. I've spent all day trying to sort it out.
