Hello all,

I just reacently got 5.0 upgrade, and on one computer i have 5.0 and on another 4.5 with Mray 1.5.1.

In my research i have found some things that bother me. One thing is Displacement in both Maya's. Maya 4.5 and 5.0 have fine displacement features, and both have "View dependent" option in DisplacementAprox window.

Problem is in 4.5 View Dependent feature doesent give any significant diferences in rendering, rendering is only much faster with that option turned off.
Now in Maya 5.0 diferences in same option are huge, with View Dependent on, displacement rendering is fine, tho very slow for preview, but with that option furned off, displacement becomes very bad, very sharp and not ussable. Not even close to 4.5 renderer. I have used same scene on both machines.

Another thing i have found in 5.0 is option under Memory tab. In Maya 4.5 there are 2x options, one is Phisical and other is Virtual Memory. Maya 5.0 has only one, and thats Phisical. I wonder why.

Can anyone please explain my both problems.

Don't know mate sorry. But since you must be on full support (as Maya5 is only available to Full Maintenance customers until the CD's get posted) I'd say ask A|W (?)

Whoops...I thought everyone bought maintenance...
I must be doing something wrong here...
I wish Newtek did that for Lightwave...one time purchase and get updates for a year....

I was thinking of upgrading to Maya 5.0. I was wondering if you got a new Shader Library installer with the upgrade, and are they the same ones, or is there more default shaders? Thanks.:)
