Hi eveyrone,

My name is Brendt and i am interested in Digital matte painting. I am proficient in photoshop and i see that a lot of digital matte paintings use 3d elements. i was wondering how some of you guys use 3D in conjunction with Photoshop? What kind of 3D skills are used to do Digital Matte painting? Do you guys lay out the evironment in 3D first and then move it to photoshop or vice versa? Thanks for all responses and helping a newb out =) Hope to add some art on here for crit soon.

3D can be used to block out scenes with complicated perspective and then painted over for the final matte, or can be used to entirely model, texture light and render certain elements that you cant hen integrate into the matte. Also 3D is now widely used for 3D camera mapping to get camer moves into a 2D matte painting.

Hope that helps

Nick
