Alright I am in!

I was entered into the Dominance War III challenge but I figured character design just isnt for me. So this sounds much better :D

I think with this challenge I will go with a theme close to the movie "Children of Men". With lots of urban decay and despair in the air.

Here are the plates that I have choosen:

I hope to update this thread within the next couple of days with some concepts.

Cheers!

Hey Matt,

Yeh Children of Men is one of my favorite films, the matte work in there are great examples of invisible work.

Good luck mate

Dave.

Thanks David! I agree , one of the greatests movies out in a long while.

So here are some quick sketches so far. I will still do a bit more detailing before I get started on the mattes. I still want to figure out what kind of signs I want these to be and so on.

Nice concepts! I too was thinking something along the lines of a 1984 type thing with more of a dictator thing going on but we'll see now though. :hmm:

Children of Men! Ahhh! Great idea.

Nice sketches too. It looks like the country needs soldiers? Against terrorists I presume?

RQuack: hey man I am glad you like it! Yeah once i looked at these plates when viewing the challenge , that kind of idea popped right into my head , but dont think because my idea is along the same lines as your you have to change it! I want to see some concepts for you :D

Timmay: Thanks man! I was actually thinking more along the lines of police. When thinking about this concept a bit, I thought it would be interesting if they need lots of police to protect them from each other , but I guess I dont have to put that much thought into it since no one will really get that idea from the mattes.

Akajork: Hey man , I am glad my concepts got you moving! hehe I am looking forward to seeing your concepts and ideas.

I might detail these ones up a bit more this weekend I hope . But most of my time will be working on the Bridgetown matte I have been working on for 3 years now.

Cheers!

Hi Matt,

Nice concepts, personally i'm leaning towards 1 and 2.

These are equally great, but i'd suggested running off a series of concepts with the time available, work up as many as you can, flip a few around, trust me the more you can do and the more ideas you can generate the better.

Dave.

awesome concepts :D i hope you leave dr evil in the final matte :]

Hey thanks James , I will put a bit more work into concept two at some point today . Just try and help the composition a bit and create an interesting focal node.

Thanks Suirebit! I am glad you like them.

Hey David , yeah I think I will play around a bit with the compositions. I dont have a whole lot of free time but with the time I do have I hope to make some improvements :D

HAHAHA Divi I was wondering if anyone was going to nitice him there. When I was concepting I thought of the idea " What would the world be like if Dr. Evil killed Austin powers and took over the world! " but it was more of a joke while concepting. So I thought I would just throw him in there. I am always dying to add humor to my images but then I start to think that maybe it will distract from the image as a whole. Maybe someday when and if Im working in the industry I will add the humor to the work I do on my free time.

Cheers

Hey David ,
I put together the videos. Now I am just trying to figure out how I will do the tracking , as I have no experience doing that sort of thing. A little fustrating but I hope to have it figured out at some point. :D

I should have some updates within the next couple days . I have a couple portraits I have to get done and I need to put some more time into my bridge town matte. But very soon I hope!

Cheers!

Mihael: Hey thanks man! :D

Christian: Thanks! I hope to have the final concepts done by tonight. Things have been a bit stressful around here lately so I haven't been able to spend much time with these concepts as I would like. Thou everything will be staying pretty much the same , just some added details here and there. Then hopefully I can get started on the matte paintings tomorrow.

Cheers!

Hey matt, did you ever watch all those DVDs :) ???

Anyway, you have one concept which is good, on with the mattes i think. Remember photorealistic intergration is key to this one

The top one looks cool matt, though the bottom looks quite sterile. If you put in a shanty town (google Hooverville Great depression) or look at demolition man it would add a contrast to the sterile environment. Might lift the human drama a bit.

Cheers for helping me out on my WIP, hope I can reciprocate

Cheers

Matt- GREAT ideas, love the top one, I say the more scaffolding and wires the better. I agree though with Rich, the first one has life, would love to see some more of that personality in the second one.

03-31-2008, 12:30 AM
Hey guys thanks for the input. I am glad you like the first one and I will make sure to add some personality to the second . Right now I am just laying out the ground work for it, so I have something solid to work off of :D

Cheers!

Chrike

hey Matt!

I agree with Rich and RQuack!
Really good work on the first one so far!
I think the problem with the second one is that it seems like a totally separated area due to the concrete walls which kind of act like boundaries. As if you intend to treat this part of the image on itīs own without actually connecting it to the overall thing (background in that case).
It might help to put some graffiti on the walls to make it appear more as a viewer would expect it; or maybe get rid of the little part above the entrance to the tunnel.
then you would have a gap pretty much on eyelevel which allows to look at the city in the background!

keep em coming :)

Hey Christian , thanks for the input. I decided to put a little bit of time into the background. Hopefully this will help tie it all in.

Small update

Starting to add in the buildings for the mattes. I think some will change. But once I get all these in and I am happy with it , then I will start adding all the cords , signs etc etc.
