There's tons of sites out there with great tutorials...
http://www.onlamp.com/php/
http://www.zend.com/
http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP
http://www.phppatterns.com/index.php/link/category/1/
(check the links on the bottom of this one for more)
As for books. I always liked the "Visual Quickstart Guide" series. There is a PHP one. Very good books for approaching something you have no clue about. Better than the Dummies/Idiots books IMO.
And money no option? There's always college.... ...though, that wouldn't meet your "quick" needs. :p
The final option, being quickest and easiest. Have Tank upload php skills directly to your brain through your neck plug...
yeh, i'm gonna go see the matrix when its released. thx n e way. no college doesn't work. they treach you nothing LOL. well basing it on education in the uk.

http://www.php.net/ is the home of PHP. there are some great code examples and references there. also, at the bottom of every page is a "show source" link. click it to see how they built that page.
i taught myself PHP entirely from their website in about 4 days. very handy stuff.
dude u cannot learn php in 4 days. and i meant learn how to code. it not just read it.
