View Full Version : viewport pan/zoom speed
muckywetnoodle 05-06-2003, 07:05 PM Is there a way to adjust mouse speed and acceleration when rotating your view to objects up close? Basically, I want it ramped way down when I am zoomed in on a detail area. I was trying different perspective cam settings but didn't have much luck. I am spending way too much time fussing with the viewport because it's so jumpy.
Thanks for any info.

Hi Eric,
I don't think there's a way of adjusting mouse speed (that's more of a Windows thing), but it sounds like your camera isn't focused on the area you want to work on. It can be annoying, usually happens because the camera's aim point is in line with the area you want (i.e. looking at it), but it's Z 'depth' is nearer or further than you want. So as soon as you orbit the object, it actually orbits it's aim point and the object shoots off screen...
I find the easiest way to navigate quickly in Maya is to select the object or component(s) you want to work on and use either the f key (frame selected) or the View -> Look at Selection command. They both do the same thing, and put the camera's aim point at the centre of the selection, but while the f key zooms in to frame it, the 'Look at' doesn't, it just changes the aim direction.
Hope it helps.
Wabo.

You could try View-->Camera Tools-->Dolly,Tumble,Track Opiton Box and adjust the scale of each tool
