Title: Reinterpretation of the Oracle at Delphi
Name: Bernardo Arroyo
Country: Mexico
Software: 3ds max, Digital Fusion, Photoshop, VRay

Hello, I made this image for the Nvart contest:
This is a modern interpretation of the oracle of Delfos from acient greek times.
The priestess in some versions of the legend used the look into a mirror of water to seek answers for important state questions, or personal questions.
in modern days, it is not possible that the decision of going to war would be asked to an oracle, but it is absolutely necesary to have a dedicated space to find ourselves, it is said also that in the original oracle there used to be two columns with the following phrases in greek wich i have them in Latin, the inmortal language:
"Nosce te ipsum" wich means "know yourself" and "Age quod agis", that means "Do what you are doing" inviting the questioner to concentrate on the present moment, this two phrases have inspired countless generations of wise men and women to realize themselves, I have kept this ideas on my mind all the time i have been working on this image.
Now, the actual desing of the building is based on the golden rectangle and proportions, giving it an extra sense of a perfection matching the patterns in nature,
the building itself is a tribute to intelligence (interior reading) and it is separated in two pieces, meaning the dichotomy that comes after any human
decision /action, and the whole structure finds itsels reunited at the metallic pot in the center, where the decision act takes place.
The forest is a very silent place, inviting us to reflect and enjoy philosophy, the acutal isolation of the building over the water is to make a distinction of the oracle as a separate place on the universe, a special place. At the same time, floating over the water is an allegory of how consciousness arise from the subconscious, the water from where all beauty emerges as a loto flower.

as Gaston Bacherlard cites in the poetics of space:

"Habitants délicats des forets de nuos-memes"
-Delicate inhabitantes of the forest of ourselves

I hope you enjoy this image as much as i enjoyed making it

hello, exceptional work man, the realism is greatˇˇˇ only i don´t see well the scale of the building, cause i cannot have a clear reference of human scale in scene... on anyway superb render

I really like this image. It's pleasant to look at, and I think that's mostly because of the colour pallet, and nice lighting.

I think the foreground plants could use more depth blur to them.

Also, the scale of this oracle thing is hard to judge. I have no idea if it's smaller than a person in height, or a huge building that is just really far away. Maybe put something in there next to it, that's natural of course, which would define a scene scale.

hey, thank you all for your kind comments, I really appreciate them, and I will keep them on mind for my next images =)
and i actually never tought too much about the size of the building,, but yes, you are right, you cant tell very well the actual size of it, it was supposed that the small tree on the right was like a reference, but it is too small.. grrr haha
and yes, it was onyx tree once you have the whole tree imported into max and textured you can make it a vray proxy and have it duplicated a few times without a huge impact on the ram, this image was using 1.9 gb of ram (3gb switch on xp) but i will be buying a new computer sometime soon with 8gb.. lots and lots of space for trees! hahaha

good luck to all!
