CGTalk - materials in timeline

I can't seem to figure this out.
I can't see the animation keyframes of materials at the same time as the keyframes as everything else. I can drag a material into the timeline and see it or I can turn on "Automatic Mode" and see everything else. Or I can drag the material and then drag everything else in and see both. The material keys don't just show up when I turn on "show animated". All the eyeballs are open (on) in both the layer browser and the timeline.

Why don't materials show up all by themselves?

You have to go to TL>View>One Level Up, or View>Go To Main Level. Why it was decided that material animation wouldn't be displayed at the default settings is beyond me.

Thanks. That's a bit less annoying than how I was doing it before.
