View Full Version : Slowness after each operation.
Mars_Artis 05-06-2003, 04:56 PM This thing results really annoying:
every thing i do, even selecting an object or a material results in mouse hangin for a sec or so.
I really don't know why this happens.
My workstation is:
Dual Athlon MP 2000+
1GbRAM
Quadro Xl900
pri hd:
Maxtor Diamond 9 60Gb
sec hd
Maxtor Diamond 9 80Gb
the windows paging file is set on the 2nd hd (min 1024MB max 1534MB)

That is odd. What version of Cinema are you using? Is OpenGL hardware enabled?
I don't know much of technical things but some suggestions.
- Check 'high thread priority' in general settings.
- check what (unnecesary) programs are running in the background.
- check the batteries of your mouse (if you use cordless)
Hope this works...

i'm using 8.1 and yes i've enable HW open gl.
i've no cordless mouse ;)
i've tried enabling and then disabling hi thread priority and nothing changed.
to make the situation even more "weird" this happens no matter how larg the scene is... it happens with empty files too when, for example, i insert in the scene a cube or any other primitive.
:surprised

Do you perchance have snapping enabled? Latest video drivers?
Otheriwise I think you might want to try reinstalling.

try disabling dual planes in the opengl settings

i don't use Cienma for modeling so the snaps are off

i've tried disabling dual planes in the opengl settings
but this behavior remains.
By chanche i've tried setting the pref/viewport/options to software shading.
Well the mouse moves smoothly. Of course if the scene is very complex i get a slooow redraw.
Anyway let's descrive the 2 bheaves with only a cube in the scene:
software shading: i pan, rotate dolly etc and the mouse moves ok.
forgot to say that to i tryed to switch down the res to 1024-768 to see if it could help... no way
if i set to opengl even the simpliest click on a popup windows causes this hanging.

It's definetely an OpenGL issue, try updating your drivers.

I didn't quite catch what you were saying in the last post; did you say OGL works okay with only a cube in the scene?
One thing to note: there's a limitation in the current OGL support that causes it to slow down a lot if you are using a background object. One workaround is to use a textured plane instead.

no Adam the issue still there if using OGL and placing only a cube in the scene.
anyway i resolved the issue (really two at same time)
ok the opengl one :
i tweaked some BIOS parameters:
Video Bios Shadow > disable (was enable)
Video Ram cachable> enable (was enable)
AGP aperture size > 64MB (was 256)
this way Cinema works nicely.
Another issue was Cinema crashing sometimes when closing the app, giving me memory errors. This resulted in sys hang aswell.
After that Bios setup this prob disappeared too
:applause:
That is
