Can we see a profile (side) and frontal view in addition?

That would make it easier to give you some good feedback.

A good start. I think the face needs some smoothing and the mouth needs to get more pronounced lips. I like how the ears are progressing.

i like the helmet very much. the material renders great :)

bout the face, maybe theres a few things u could check, but only if u plan to stick strictly with a realistic anatomy.

it looks like your skull is a bit "streched" (the back of the skull looks like its going a bit too far way up). its true it would be easier to see with a front and side render views.

also maybe your ears are a little to high. if u draw a line from the eye corner to the top of the ear (where the ear is attached to the skull), normally u should have an horizontal line. like when u wear glasses, the branch of the glasses makes an horizontal line between the eye and the ear.

but maybe its a false impression that i have because of the perspective view

he lips and the head seem a little funky.

its deffinitely not a a normally shaped skull. and those lips just need time. anyway great materials.

nice pic.

I really like the helmet-thing so far, great texture too.
If you're going for sort of cartoonish, then the face is looking pretty good (kinda long though). If your going to more realistic, then you want to play with the nose and mouth too.

if this guy is gonna be racer he'll need some sort of mask to keep the dust/grit out, so you might not need to fix the mouth :)
looking good so far though

this is looking good...and a bike thingy...too...v cool.

comments...would only be head seems long..but poss camera angle....mouth to flat...nose flat at nostril...ear pointy....these all however might actually work out as features...for the racer of the future...so not sure if i'm outta line saying it!...

materials are looking funky though bud...and can't wait to see a body and transport method...

Thanks first for the answers.
Good that you like it.

Rendering a profile shot, a front and also a view without the helmet right now. I will post them right away.

For the critics: The mouth is a weak point of all of my models. Mostly i get to make "fat lips" as a friend of mine said some time ago. Tried to keep this guy some smaller lips and got this result. Changed the mouth allready. For the ear position: This character is NOT human. I don't want to achieve a full human anatomy. He has in fact a very stretched head. He has a different nose and "elf" ears. Also the bone structure of the skull is different.
Maybe the images will clear this.

For the materials you have to praise audity from renderosity.com c4d forum. Sometimes you need to check this site. Pretty nice resource and the first c4d contact for me on the web when i started a year ago using this "mastertool".

For his vehicle: I'm not shure if he will need a mask cause i haven't decided yet if it will be a bike or more a jet with a closed cabin in front.

I think i will finish the character first.

IMAGES TO FOLLOW TONIGHT

rendered some more images of my WIP.

First one is an image without that glases. Don't like them right now. I will probaply create some glases or visor attached to the helmet.

Next one is the side view. Everybody can see his headshape now? :) NOT HUMAN

two other shots.
Front view without the helmet and a perspective rendered the same way.

I like it! The helmet's very original--great texture. I won't comment on the facial anatomy, since he isn't human, but the face material could definitely use some variation in color, bump, and specularity. But that's probably in the works. Good job. :wavey:

Prayas,

Now we're talking!

Sweet! I ilke it a lot!

The lips have a flat feeling, They don't seem to contour with the rest of the head. Mabe just fatten the center of the lower lip? Not sure. Just looking a little flat in that area.

Keep it up!

The corners of the mouth need to be pulled in. This is the No. 1 mistake people make when modeling mouths.

05-07-2003, 04:51 PM
Got my train right and am back online now.

Thanks AdamT i know this problem allready haven't worked on this. It's just pulling 4 points back. That easy but have no time to do the changes now. New images are on their way.I will post a wire later too.

We're talking right medula. As for the ideas on the mouth i tried to explain the problem. The Upper lip is ok in my eyes. I always made the lower lips big usually to big. For this model i try to make a real small lip. Maybe i need to make some different forms and let you decide.

Glad you like the model. Helps alot too finish a piece if people encourage you to do so. I think i need to post this image in WIP forum also.

Wish you all a nice evening or whatever time of the day there is right now.

THX That_Adrian_Guy.

Yeah face needs some rework. Really not sure if i'm going for a real looking alien humanoid character or not. In this image there is not a single map assigned to the materials. All procedural. He needs definatly some maps, but later when modeling is done.
I think my presentation of this model is more developed than the character himself. Next images will be without any shader.

Status. Working on the upper body right now. Animated the shades. Thinking over the sketches of the vehicle and modeling first test.

Started on the upper body last night. PLZ ignore his back i didn't work on this so far.
Only extruded the lines down.
He is also not carrying full body armor in this images. Oh and i forgot to switch the little bag in the front of. hope everybody can see enought detail. The hand were taken from another model of mine. They are a bit to fat right now. I will correct this later.

Got some new renderings to show.

cool dude, very nice images. I like that the head
has not the usual shape. One question - what
are the horns on the helmet for ?

Are you a Manga fan? I think it has Manga style.

keep on

prayas
05-15-2003, 02:58 PM
Thanks for the reply bobtronic. Not a real manga fan. I used to read comics some years ago but i do only have small collection of my favorite series. My taste concerning comics is more the US style than asian. Love series like Darkness or Fathom.

The "horns" (I think you talk about the cylinders on the helmet) are bottles filled with a drug. He is a racer on a very fast vehicle. He can not have any fear so if something is getting really difficult for him there is a injector(?!?!right word) in the helmet to put this drug directly to the brain. Strange idea? I like it.

Thanks for the ideas on improving this character. Hopefully i will have done this with the next update.

Still got some problems with the skin shader. Chanlum is not working well with radiosity. Got some strange reflections where there are no reflections on the material. Don't know why this happens. They appear if i use other .hdr maps than the red one for ex. a daylight scene.

Hey prayas, is this going to be part of your awakening-project?
cheers rollmops :-)

prayas
05-18-2003, 01:48 PM
Sorry to say that but AWAKE (http://www.prayorpanic.com/__v3/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=9) is on ice now(right word??). Anyway everyone can have a look. Akandor is not giving out any news on this one and i for myself don't like to do all the work cause it was not my project @ first. I did some character development but i don't want to do all the biz.

This character is a single portfolio project. I learned a lot character modeling during the Awake studies. Maybe we restart the project soon but for two weeks i heard nothing from Akandor and that is not the way i like to do a group project.

Does this answer your question?

Second thing i like to know. Can anybody give me a clue how to animate this char. I know how to work with bones and claude bonet. One question though: What if i like to animate a char that consists of different layers, like the body than clothes and than a body armor consisting of single parts. How do i get the clothes move the same way like the bodyskin? They are single objects right now.

UPDATE

Finaly back online with my own machine and got some new stuff to show. Wasn't easy to find my thread in this very active forum.

i think his side forearms ought to have the same sought of taper as his head...personal opinion though...you know some other parts of his body should be speedy looking like his head...would make more sense then...also his back ribs are they supposed to be like this?

other than that nice work...

AdamT
05-28-2003, 11:15 PM
Also the shoulder/deltoids/triceps need some tweaking. Of course he is an alien, so maybe it's perfect! Hmm, I think I'll start modeling aliens instead of humans! :D

prayas

hehe AdamT. Thought the same some days ago when looking at his body and head. The arms need some tweakin'. I will hopefully do it the next days.

Flingster: Don't know how to make other parts of the body "speedy looking". Thought about having some hand made in this direction but for the body this alienhuman form is nearly the best.

Updates are on the way.

Finally some update on this char. The riggin' is nearly finished.
http://www.prayorpanic.com/_up_data/racer/rig.jpg

Still needs some work on the weight maps but have to say that Claude Bonet is definatly a great tool. Helped me alot in this work.

http://www.prayorpanic.com/_up_data/racer/posed_01.jpg

First pose is finished also. Like to know if you like it.
One question on the way. How do i make his cloth perform the same way as his body?

P..:

bobtronic
06-04-2003, 02:02 PM
Hi prayas,

Nice update, you almost ready, eh ?
As for the animating the clothes you should
ask yourself if you need a whole body under
the clothes. As long as he is not making a strip
you will need only the visible parts like the hands
or the head. Delete the hidden parts. That will
speed up things and you don't have to trouble
with moving the body and the clothes. Make only
one rig for the clothes and the visible parts now.

hope that helps

Bob

Almost bobtronic. Nearly done with it.

Look your idea is one of the basic solutions for the problem but in my eyes one of the "quick 'n' dirty" versions of getting along with it. AND yes he needs to strip:-) Not really but he should have the abillities to open the zipper on his jacket. YES i want it his way. Allready have some idea how to realize that zipper thing.

I'm working out the joints right now 'cause some of them don't look right at the moment.

What i like to know is: People what would you guess about his vehicle? Try it!

Never made a face texture before. DO you like it a it is right now?

What are good ways to create eyelashes that look quite cool on a model? Tried this method with an alpha maped material but didn't like the result. Right now the lashes are modeled by some low poly objects aranged along a spline.
Any better solutions?

thanks for the nice word Fredi.
I' ll keep with the wood because i made a gun with metall partrs and a rubber/plastic grip. Looks bad compared. For the scratch texture i think i'll need to send you the file. You are the texturing guy.

I'm a bit stuck with this project right now. Don't know/ can't decide wich vehicle. Will return in some days right now rigging of the femal and working on the texmap is the point.
