View Full Version : animating modifier's--object goes invisible
wasted weasel 05-06-2003, 02:39 PM having a little problwm with 3DS max 5.1, i have never had the need to animate modifiers on an object (except the morpher)
but trying to animate a "bend" or the seprate points on an "FFD box" (modifier, not the space warp) the object remains visible until i save and close the file and open it up again. the object is still there, when i delete or hide the animated modifier the object is renderable, but i lose all my animation
any idea's?
i'm a tight bind with this one
please help

Wait a sec...
"when i delete or hide the animated modifier the object is renderable, but i lose all my animation"
Ok, you're saying that when you delete the animated modifier, you lose your animation? Um...what did you expect?

oops sorry,
i mean my object is animated in terms of it's position and rotation.
but let's say on top of that i add a bend modifier and animate the bend for a few frames. everything is all good. and looks the way i want it too.
so i save my file and close max, if i go back and open it up again my object is invisible. (i don't know why this is), i can select it from the object list, and looking at the modifiers i have on it, if I hide the Bend modifier my object becomes visible again (but obviously my bend animation is not there). so it seem's when i turn my bend back on it disapears and it doesn't render out either....
it's not if i delete the modifier or not, the fact is when i have it (bend modifier) animated it causes my object to become invisible and thus not renderable...
sorry for my vague description
still looking for any help if anyone know's what the hell i'm talking about

Please post your modifier stack, wither written or a screengrab.

No problem, man, just wanna know what we are working with here.
Ok, so let's restate the entire thing:
To my understanding, this is what the problem is:
You add an FFD modifier to your mesh, then create some keyframe animation for that modifier.
All is ok.
You then save the scene, and when you you reopen it, the mesh is invisible, and the FFD modifier has no animation to it?
First, go here: http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/file_crashing/file_crashing.htm
After reading that, and doing what he says, come back and give us your findings. I'd also like to know what plugins you are using(if any) and what else is going on in your scene.
One other thing to try, is to callapse the stack down to an EP and see if that helps. You're UVW mapping will not be lost if you do this.
I'm pretty sure we can figure this out. What is our timeframe?
