personal project.. worked on this for ages. It's without doubt my biggest and most intense piece I've done so far. I used Vue (for the base of my river), C4D (for modeling and texturing that tower) and Adobe Photoshop.

the plate I started with: http://smiling-demon.deviantart.com/art/The-Panarama-79561842 (http://smiling-demon.deviantart.com/art/The-Panarama-79561842)

original res: 6321x2473

I tried to imply a little story.. just to make it more interesting. Valek Mur is the name of the stronghold the guards are standing on. They watch over the Realm they sworn to protect and keeping their people safe.

Tel me what you think!

Interesting concept Jorik, However I am unsure of the lightning on the right, If you want keep it in a little rim light on the guards would separate them from the background.

the ariel perspective looks fine, however a little bit of depth of field would sell it.

like this, a lot more texture than the city scape you previously did which I find challenging. Keep up the good work

many regards

Really cool shot, nice work. A few things though that I can spot. The water looks a little flat, maybe throw in some different water variations and break it up a bit. Maybe just throw some water textures over it and see how it looks. And the shadows from the bottom buildings look a little weird, the color maybe? And the FG darks seem a bit dark, when I take it in PS and mess with some levels, to me, it looks better, it just looks dark for the sun being out and that bright. Anyway, all my opinions and nice work like I said.

I think it looks pretty good so far, i really like the patchwork colours of the retreating hills. I think you are struggling a little with the content, as transitioning from a dark nightmarish atmosphere on one side of the painting to a glorious sunshine on the other is difficult to do...seems almost like it has that LOTR quality to it, where everything descends into darkness as you approach the mountainous regions. If you want the image to appear consistent then i would consider embracing wholly one of the two 'moods' and integrate that across the whole image....but that's just my opinion

Otherwise i think the only real issue you have is that everything throughout the image feels a bit too 'straight', from the tower (mess it up a bit?) to the river in particular, as a real river bank would be much more complex at it's edges..at the moment the structure of it is more like a road.

Overall though...nice job i'm just being picky really

thanks for the awesome replys guys:) I really appreciate it. I value your comments since some of the industries best people are here.
I agree on most points and the river bank certainly is a point I will take another look at. I'm not really happy with that. The transition between light and dark was pretty hard indeed.

thanks a lot:)

Looking at it again, i think you handled the transition really well, it's just that as good as it is, i'm not sure if it sits right in the image as a whole..
