Hi

Im using After effects 7.0. Lately after im working on a project for a while After Effects begins to spit out the following error:

"After Effects error: cannot insert an item into a read-only list. ( 27 :: 16 )"

All I did previous to this error was duplicate some layers, now I cant add or duplicate any layers/files into this project without being halted by that error. I tried closing/re-opening, I tried rebooting, nothing seems to work.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Ive checked out adobe support for AE as well as searching this forum and the rest of the net -- nobody seems to experience this.

Im using Windows Vista 64 bit. I'd appreciate any assistance you guys can provide me

Have you updated any codecs/players/drivers recently?
Also, and this might seem silly, but have you checked to see if the file is read-only suddenly?

Hi

Im using After effects 7.0.

...

Im using Windows Vista 64 bit.

All the answers you need are there. I know this sounds extremely rude but: F***ing upgrade to CS3! It's the only version that has been tested and certified to be used on Vista. You will not get any official support from anyone in the scenario you're running. Even more so, since driver support for Vista 64 is extremely flakey. To date there's not a single reliable graphics driver for any of the higher-end NVidia or ATI cards for instance....

Has usually nothing to do with any of that. "Lists" refers to the internal checksums/ hashes used by AE to reference all items internally. When they get locked, this is usually a sign of another program interfering in AE's memory usage. Could be anything from some fraggin' iTunes DLL to Windows' own swap file to execution protection and advanced user management. Anyway, it only brings us back to the original issue: Vista + AE7 = no joy.

I was pretty much waiting for you to chime in Mylenium, as you seem to be the authoirty on all things AE-errored. :)

Useful information to know. Thanks! (Not that I would ever "upgrade" to Vista in a production environment).
