Whether it's your first or next job, preparing your demo reel is always one of the biggest challenges you face. How do you present yourself so you stand out above the crowd? What strategies should you apply when picking and choosing your clips? What tools might help you out?
On March 13, DC_SIGGRAPH and WIFV's Animators Roundtable are coming together for the first of two meetings exploring demo reels. For years now, this has proven to be DC_SIGGRAPH's most popular event, eventually expanding into a 2 night program.
Part 2 will take place in April, when we come back together for a night of looking at and critiquing demo reels--and figuring out who will be the next talent to be picked up by the major studios!
BUT WAIT, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
Our Guru of giveaways has really come through this time. Thanks to Stephen Egts, STASH media (http://www.stashmedia.tv/ (https://owa.dol.gov/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.stashmedia.tv/)) is proving some ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC giveaways (did i mention they are free!). If you don't know about Stash, check it out. For our meeting, they have provided us $751 worth of freebies! Stash is a dvd magazine of animation and special effects, and will serve as a great inspiration for your demo reel, and your next project. We have 9 individual issues (value $35 each), one best of 2007 (a $49 value) and for 3 lucky winners we have a Stash SIXPACK--6 issues each--valued at $129. We also have addtional giveaways. That's 13 marvelous prizes. Who ever said 13 was an unlucky number!!! Plus we have approximately 100 STASH CASH cards to give away. That means it looks like everyone might be a winner. People can use STASH CASH cards towards subscriptions and other special STASH collections. The STASH CASH is first come, first served of course.
So please come, bring a business card, and your questions.
The roundtable coordinators,
David, Miguel, Dick, Katie, and Stephen
