hello,
I read this case study about teh guys who made the M&M ads and they said that they wrote the shader for the skin of the m&m character. What does that mean ? They did use XSI for the whole deal. So where does xsi allow shaders to be written? any tutorials? i'm interested in writing my own shaders as well, but can't seem to find any resources on learning the whole process.

cheers

You should also buy the two books of Thomas Driemeyer, "Rendering with mental ray" and "Programming with mental ray", as mr is the renderer used by XSI.

If you mean some of the recent M&M ads, TOPIX made them, yes I believe all XSI from what I saw. A very smart TD from Topix, Matt Daw, recently also wrote a very cool Ambient Occlusion shader for XSI.
