Hey all my "Mayans" friends!

Well i'm working on a new project right now called "Monster Hand" hehehe (quite original huh?!)

At this stage the hand modeling is pretty much completed so i tried some UV texturing... that's my daubt!

I layed out the uvs for the upper part of the hand only (for a test propose) and did this first texturing...

http://www.digitaldome.hpg.ig.com.br/images/monster_hand9_big.jpg

But now i have only a map for these UV... There are a bunch of parts without texturing!
Is there a way to still use this texture and them combine it to a new UV layout so i can proceed with the texturing job?

Any help?

:Thanks:

TuLe,

Usually the UV laying process is done all at once, section by section. Mapping a checker pattern will help you troubleshoot places where texture is stretching as well as laying out the UVs correctly. Ultimately, you should have a set of UV (shell) for the top of the hand, bottom of the hand, and misc pieces between the fingers and stuff. After you've mapped everything then you scale the UV shell all down to fit the texture size (ex: 512x512 or 1024x1024) and export the UV map to <insert favorite pixel pusher here> to paint. Maybe some nice person can give you info on this. Shoot, ask Leigh, a mod on thie General Discussion forum. She's awesome. Hope this helps.

edit: One option you could pursue is use the Extract Tool (Edit Polys I believe) on the untextured faces, detaching them from the rest of the textured area. Then remap the extracted faces, and then create another canvas to textures those faces. But this is usually bad.

Thanks for the reply ntmonkey!

Looks like the best way here would be setting a new UV shell and start over with the texturing!
Thanks again for your and only words...

I'll seek for Leigh sometime and see if she can give me some more info... (I bet she can!)

Thanks again!

You don't need to start over. Just assign the same material to whatever new faces you map or to the entire model.
