I am stuck on this part, I tried to model by creating a mesh then extracting all parts separately. I then added a shell modifier with 2 segments on thickness (you can see it in the ss). Now how do I make each part less rounded after applying a NURMS SUBDV. I tried deleing the cornering edge, but unsure if this proccess will work out, hence the edges started looking unnatural.

You need to add edges around the sides to support the mesh when you subdivide. Unfortunately, you can't just take a shape and expect max to know exactly how you want it to smooth the surface. You need to include extra edges spaced closely together to get the smoothing result you want.

The first page of this tutorial shows exactly what I mean:

At the bottom of the page, he shows an example of how the paneling will look if there are no edges at the corner.
