Hey guys... I finally finished it... I have made a new character Rig tutorial
that explaines in detail how to rig a character in maya from head to toe...
It features all kinds of neat things :) (well at least I think so)
You may have seen this on cgchannel.com already, but I figured I should post it here also...
I am just about to graduate from the College for Creative Studies, and I
decided to make this tutorial to help other students get to the fun part
of 3D.... ANIMATING!
This rig is fast to build and fast to use... So please check it out and send your

Thanks for the superb effort of putting together the tutorial.Im midway thru it at the moment, and im findin it excellent....and its been a big help for me.

I have just recently graduated from the College for Creative Studies in detroit MI...
and your very welcome for the tutorial.... I just figured people should know this stuff so we can get to the fun part.... the animation...

I found your tutorial to be insightful, and covers the basics very well. Although I might not agree with all your methods, you still show that you understand the concepts you cover. It's more important to know why you are doing something, rather than just doing it, especially regarding character setup. If you are looking at setup as a career, then I'd say you're putting the right foot forward and are on the right track.
I would suggest that you do a wide range of setups for a demo reel, and if you're a good MEL scripter, then show that you know your stuff.

Cool... thanks for the advice and the reply...
I am actually a character animator... however I needed to
make a setup that I could build very quickly and that was fairly
simply to put together... This rig was designed for college students that are just trying to get to the animation part...
If you don't mind could maybe give me a brief overview of some of the methods you would use as opposed to what I am using?

hi inspleak, thanks for the tut, its really cool that you've taken so much time to create a really polish tut. I'm trying to create a rig at the moment and was wondering if you IK back solution could be used for a back made up of more than 3 joints, say 10 joints?

Actually yes... use the second spine method...
this uses spline IK and will handle as many spine joints
as you want...

How's it going I saw your real at the student show. nice stuff. I'll check out the rig now, as i am interested in it also. I didn't even know you posted here, and if it wasn't for halo, i would have never known!! good luck in getting a job.
