View Full Version : Oceania, Artspace comp
Rockhoppermedia 03-07-2008, 08:21 PM Hello, I have entered the Artspace competition, has anyone else entered? There are only two contributors to matte painting that I recognise Ehsan and Starno. The comp finishes on the the 10th of March not much time left. This is my entry called Oceania, This was a practice piece for me there are lots of mistakes. I couldnt finish it completely because my laptop hard drive is about to go to heaven so had to rush it. Well I had fun, hope to see more DM painters entries. Not often I get excited
Rich.

I like the concept, it would me amazing to see in real life, I have some suggestions though
I believe you need cotnrast between light and shadow, right now eventhough you have a background key light, everything looks flat, the lines on the handrails need lots of work, they don't look good as it is now,you need contact shadows on the bushes and the other elements as well, the materials need to be defined, the cristal reflection on the domes, the water too,I would try to work in a rough 3D scene just to get the proper perspective, light contrast, and take that as a start to paint, the characters you have there,I think are not helping much, and if you want this looks like an architecure visualization , I would take at some references first, what kind of lighting do the architects do to make his work look better. hope this helps

Thank you for your response jaime,
Yep it always helps to get a second perspective, I had a feeling there was something wrong and you have helped by highlighting it. This was a hard paint to do and i was struggling with it big time. I will not have a chance to correct this for a few weeks so I will file this into my folder. I have a folder of all my mattes that do need alot of work and when I relook at them some time later I learn from where I went wrong.
Thank you
Rich
