In the interests of improving, I've decided to overcome my shyness and try posting here.

Thanks in advance for any comments and/or critique! Hands are toughest for me, so I guess that's as good as any place to start. I have yet to draw a non-freakish hand with no reference.

Using my action-packed hand as ref (charcoal):

I don't remember where I got the photo ref for this hand -- I've gotta get better at bookkeeping! (photoshop)http://www.jmbailey.com/images/sketchbook/handsketch_large.jpg

Looking at these again, I think the fingertips are my biggest problem. Any help?

sheetmason,

Hello and welcome. :) I highly recommend that you get the book of Anthony Ryder:

www.tonyryder.com - book is linked off of his site or amazon.com

What I recommend is thinking about analyzing forms in terms of straight lines - look at the demo drawings on Ryder's site to see what I mean. Curves are harder to get right than straight lines / angles so I recommend that all beginners start with straights rather than curves.

Do exercises from Ryder (copy some of his drawings, using his technique of analysis) and post them here.

Cheers,

-R
