View Full Version : How do you carve stone in Maya

I am trying to create either a raised lettering or engraved lettering in stone. I saw this done once about a year ago, but not sure of how to make engraved letters on stone object. I am in a mini modeling contest and my scene is an ancient temple made mostly from granite and sandstone. I want to have alien glyphs or text engraved on certain stone objects.

Any help is appreciated.

If it's one or two I'd model em, but for a whole wall either displacement maps or bump maps, depending on how close you are to the wall.

Either paint it on the texture, or, you should be able to create the glyphs in Illustrator and import the line art and then either combine with the form or possibly boolean? I would run through the steps if I was at home, but I'm not in front of Maya.
