Hi i was wondering if you could help me with something, i'm a sorta semi noob :)

I'm working on a glass that contains a small amount of sand, say like an hourglass does (only the glass im creating contains much less sand). I'm working towards a photorealistic render and i was wondering how I should go about creating this sand.

Can it be done with just max, or will i require a plugin?
How would you go about such a task?

Thx. :)

It all depends if you're going to animate it or not. If you are then you're probably looking at working with a particle system/s.

If it's going to be a still render than you may want to try and achieve the look you want with mesh and a good texture map.

Good luck. :)

If this is for a still image, and if you are good enough in Photoshop, just make the sand in that app, but you could always toy with particles and achieve the look in 3DS.
