I'm only 17, but i'm learning how to paint with PS an a Wacom tablet. I'm doing a dragon.
I've listened that is posible to first paint in Black and White, and after it, painting it with colours.

But I dont know how.
-With layers of colours ?
-or with brushes with the "colour, smooth light..." properties and in the same layer?

Which is the best way to do it?

Lots of thanks

P.D. I know that there are lots of "dragon anatomy mistakes" but that's what I can do...

Try adding a layer (for color) above the B&W layer, and set it to "multiply." You can also try "overlay" and other layer settings. Mess around with it and see how it works for ya.

have a look at this tutorial, he's doing the same thing, painting colour over B&W, doesn't explain it too much though:

He explains it better here:

There are lots of ways you can do it. A simple web search for "colorize tutorial" will give you some good links, but here are a couple of my favorites:
http://www.wacom.com/tips/tip.cfm?ID=30&STEP=7&category=Photoshop
http://www.worth1000.com/tutorial.asp?sid=161015

Although intended to colorize B&W photos, it will work well for Grisaille images like your dragon, as well.

Don't forget to post your results, especially if you try more than one method, and tell us which one worked the best for you!
