Hi all, I'v just started a job that reqires me to use max at certain stages of production, I have two simple questions to ask ya.

1) Is there a bridge tool in max5?, like this http://www.m2estudios.com/plugins.html look for PolySew3

2) How do I save my view port settings?, I like to work in quad view with my perspective view set to polygon edges visible and selection border deactivated, which is all good and well but I can't figure out how to save this setting, on re-opening max everything reverts back to defult.
Thank you all very much

Other than these small niggles, Im finding max5 very easy to pick up and realy enjoyable, and thats sayin something comin from a hard'nd LW user.

for 1. look at the meshtools script: http://www.scriptspot.com/download.asp?ID=619&inf=1
And use connect, to bridge poly's, assign it to a shortcut, would be best. It will however not allow to do multiple connections at once. Read the instructions before installing!

2. Make all you're adjustments you like, troughout Max and then safe a file named maxstart.max in the scenes folder. If you safe objects or camera's etc. these will be safed too, duuh. If this file exists, max will use it when you start Max. You could probably write a script that saves viewport settings, but I don't think you're in for that!

Good luck,
JHN

Thanks for that, I found how to save my viewport settings while I was waiting for a reply, which was the way described.
Now for an even tougher problem.

1) I have a gforce 2 card, am in Direct3D mode and get these error messages on loading of a scene, any scene, even one I save, so guess what, my maxstart.max file is pointless now because it takes me less time to setup my viewport manualy then it takes to ok all these errors, about twenty in all.

So could somebody please tell me how to disable the pixelshaderplugins without having to revert to OpenGL.

DAM GForce2!!

Any particular reason you're avoiding using OpenGL? It has been my experience, as well as that of many others, that Geforce cards are better suited to OpenGL than DirectX. It's your call, of course; I'm just curious.

As far as disabling the pixel shaders, the plugins should be located in a folder under plugins called "hardwareshaders" or something similar. Just move them out of the plugin paths and maybe that will take care of it. You'll probably want to delete your maxstart.max file before starting Max again, otherwise you'll probably get missing plugin errors. Then you'll have to change all your settings and save a new maxstart.max.

Because on my machine, Direct3D is about twice as fast as OpenGL and gives me better picture quality.

Tryed what you mentioned about fixing the problem but it didn't work, thanks anyway but I think this is a core problem that will only be fixed with a service pack 2 patch. hehe:shrug:

u can also save a perspective viewport by going to views-save active perspective view, and then views-restore active perspective view.
