Title: ChessBoard
Name: Ruan Coetzee
Country: South Africa
Software: CINEMA 4D
I used spot lights and set them to face the board. I used soft shadows for 3 lights and the other 2 hard shadow.
A reminder of Bobby fisher the greatest chess player ever
What move would he have made.

I wonder if Bobby fisher would approve playing chess with pieces of both players same color?

Not too bad. Looks like you tried to make the board look old but for some reason it isn't quite working, dont know why. Maybe the dirt map needs a bump map to complimant it? Also the pieces could be a bit tarnished or chipped, they look too new compared to the board.
What is the board sitting on? I cant work it out. Looks like one of those mini zen sand gardens to me.
Oh, almost forgot, e4.

Hey
I think you need to remember that the pic you post is the final product - It should be enough for the user to view in order to understand your ideas and get the full notion of what the pic has to offer. If this is not the case, as in, if you need to show additional pictures such as the one you did in order to show us that the pieces are not the same color, then maybe you need to merge the two pictures somehow and present an edited main pic that contains the info of the additional one. (Or, in short, edit the main pic to make the difference between the colors of the pieces more pronounced)
Also maybe the dirt splats should have more depth to make them look as if they're not part of the chess board.
To complete the "ancient/worn" look you could also add some cracks or deformities, and possibly make the pieces look older as well, unless you mean them to be new in constrast to the board. The floor is also somewhat blurry, but maybe you did that on purpose.
Other than that, I like what you did. You managed to make a picture with relatively simple modeling look interesting, which is a hard thing to do, and it shows that your texturing and lighting is good. I tried making a chess pic myself btw, available in my website (http://www.tomsegal.up.co.il) in case you want to see it, and it doesn't look as professional as yours. (Although the concept is more original in my opinion)
In short, I like it, and I wish you good luck with future pics.
