I am animating an explosion using surface shatter and particles.
I want to animate a camera sweeping around the exploded shards and particles while they remain still, is there anyway to feeze the animation and still animate the camera

an example of the look i would like to achieve is the amazing bathtub shot in Peter Sanitra's reel

You'll need to cache your simulation and then create a new time node and connect it to the fluid nodes. Then you can key frame the out time as you want.
I have the links to the relevant thread bookmarked somewhere. Will post them here shortly. Will also post a simple example file if possible. Just gimme a few minutes.
In the meantime you can search with the key words retime fluids or something like that in this sub forum. :-)

Ok, sorry for the delay but was buried with work. Anyway, here's one thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=86&t=465164&highlight=fluid+cache) that pretty much explains re-timing the fluid cache pretty neatly. Go through post # 3 and 4.
