hola,

This here is a lil' matte painting I been doing for the past 5-6 hours, and I'm getting damn sick of looking at it. So, I'm hoping you guys can tell me whats wrong with it. I'm sure there's plenty that I havent noticed (been pulling an allnighter, the senses are deprived) Anywho, I'm posting the "after" without the "before" in hopes that you'll find stuff without comparing the two. I'll post the "before" after I get some feedback.

thankso mucho.

First of all, didn't see the original picture... and the result seems reeeeal good.

i've just one stuff to say...
you should put some more snow on some places (i've joined a file, shorter to show it than to tell it)... where u should rise up your snow stuff...

Cause in "real life" snow is not like a plan, it pack itself more in some surface, and in other places melt more than other...
so ad some unclean stuff (like some small snow mount) and i think you'll be good.

in all case, your matte is really good
:applause:

arxangel, do you mean the edge of the snow on top of the awning where the snow is shadowy ?
If not, I'm not sure where youre talking about.

Also.. anyone from San Diego ? Does it everactually snow there ?

maybe some of the buildings in the back should be covered with a haze to give more atmosphere.

Very nice work overall. I think with a few additions you could make this into an awesome matte painting !!

I dont live in country with much snow so I'm not too sure about this but I think that the snow on the main walk way and also on the plants is very uniform. Tink about reality and physics there would be some areas where the snow has fallen of the railing and is in clupms on the path etc.. Also mess up the green awning a bit give it some streaks and patches of wetness. Snow is just solidified water so try and put some water damage on a some of your sufaces, rivulets and the like.

Another thing to try is to put some haze and diffusion on the background areas. the Shot you have started with is on a very clear sunny day. If it was cold and snowy the air would be thicker and full of moisture particles (????!?! maybe) so why not play with a few varied layers of diffusion. At the moment the building look too sharp almost digital.

Also put some more texture into the sky for me it is a little flat.

Anyway see how you go maybe these ideas don't work , but maybe a liltte will help.

good work and keep it up .

You could get away with the sky being even less blue than you have it- IMO it's sort of inthe middle of where it should be- either blue sky and snow or gray overcast and snow.

Nice tweeks you did to the second version!

i think this version is quite perfect in fact...
i really like it.

one last thing i saw today:
u should had a little snow on these two spots:
1. the edge of the green stuff
2. the bottom of the edge of the green stuff (on the florr), u should had a little snow i think.

that's all 4 me :buttrock:

JAG3d - What medium are you using to do this. I like the concept and the design you have done nice work!

Overall you have done a great job. My main comment would be the lighting. In the winter the sun is low in the sky, at least in places were it snows. Also, the sun colour is a pale yellow, less white. I don't know how you would change the lighting, but I thought I'd add my $.02 worth. A snowy sky would be more leaden, ie. grey with slightly streaked clouds, if sunny, the sky would be pale blue.

Cheers, Graham

I thought it was based on CG, not a real pic. that's a really good matte.
