View Full Version : Windows slow to open
Henry Ellsworth 05-05-2003, 04:08 PM Using Maya PLE and something strange is happening. I have a 1.4GHZ dell workstation with a 1G of ram and a Quadro 550 XGL card. The option windows, hypershade window, etc. are slower to pop up than on my lap-top which has a Gefore2 card and 256MG of Ram. Is there something I can do to speed things up? Is there a way to check the performance? Is it possible that the new 550 card I installed is causing the problem. I don't remember dealing with this when I had my Matrox450. Thanks for the time.

Is that a 64 meg card?
Are you using the certified drivers?

disable XP themes. also disable theme server. (turn t w2k style)
maya PLE is slower than commercial one.thats rite.
notebooks are not good for maya PLE. (sorry)
256 is not recommended for maya.
more ram more performance for maya.
(all these are my opinions and read articles in xsi experts )

Thanks for the responses.
butCherHeLL, That is what is strange. The laptop is faster with its 256, than my desktop with 1Gig.
matty429, it is the 64MB card and I'm using driver 41.03, which according to Nvidia is "partner certified." Also, the Matrox card I replaced was a 32MB, but yet the option windows opened almost instantly. Now it take about 4 seconds to open the "extrude" dialogue window.
I'm thinking it might be something with the system. Being a computer idiot when it comes to the nuts and bolts, I don't know if there is anything I can do to increase performance. I'd hate to think that the expensive Quadro card is slower than the Matrox 450. :hmm: It wasn't easy to get the cash for it. Lots o’ lawns to cut. :)

The maya certified drivers are 30.82
I'd give them a try

Here's a difference I have noticed between my laptop(faster performance) and my desktop(slower performance)
In task manager performance tab my Laptop reads about 30% CPU Usage when I open the extrude or other options window. But the slower Desktop (with more Mem and higher speed CPU) jumps to 100% and then back down.
I'm sorry if this seems idiotic, but I can't figure this out, and it is very annoying. It's like having a Ferrari and getting beat off the line by a Yugo. :annoyed:
I just think it has to be a set-up issue with the desktop.

for my opinion (continue-II) :p
you should stop virus defenders.
check card drivers preferred by maya.
also seems it is a ram or card problem.
about notebook issue that I said before;its xsi experts comments that I read about maya.
but seems really the card driver problem.
may be u have to put to windows seettings
SLOW_PIXEL=1 or something like this I forgot. search about it here.
it worked for me in my old PC.
