Just wanted to add that there's a link to this work on Blender website

Blender site (http://www.blender.org)

Also a small article with some behind the scenes notes was done to talk about this work.

For the moment only real version is online, but very soon there'll be a downloadable version.

well, i find it hard to crit not knoing any french. however, i can say that for a first short, this is really impressive, especially considering the scope of the project, and the time you did it in. nice job. you had some really nice camera angles. your characters are nice and interesting, though i think that the animation could be a little more solid. it seems a little too loose right now. i think there should be more of an accentuation of there movements. this would make it a little more dramatic. i am not sure if that came out right. anyway, very impressive job. good luck on the next project.

Hi shirley!

You already know what I think about your work, but i guess it doesn't hurt to say it again:
Excellent!

I think that when the downloadable version will be online you'll get more answers... Real is indeed quite unpopular lately.

Hey! don't lose courage, you've got real talent, you stunned us on the newsgroups with our modelling skills for everything, bodies, bots, buildings... and you've also got the talent for writing personal stories

So....
Keep it on! I'm sure we will see more projects coming from you!

Dani
(maybe you should put the whole Out Of Memory title for the thread's topic)

This is a Blender Masterpiece! And it's your very first 3d film effort. Whoa!

When you get more experienced at 3d production in Blender you are going to make even better artistic 3d works. What's next?!

OOM WEB (http://membres.lycos.fr/garbager/)

Thanks for the comments.

Yeah! :bounce:

I've got it!
It's on my hard drive!

...

We watched it and truly! the story is amazing!
It's a miracle it could hold in a 15 minutes movie, such a theme could take a hexalogy of full featured movies! You did a really good job on the animation! really the mood is great too!

I had already seen some pics of it so I was kinda prepared to the esthetic of the movie. I remember the very first time I saw a pic I thought "he could have used some little textures" but then I thought twice and remembered of "Avalon" from Mamuro Oshii, the monochromatic treatment of parts of the movie and said to myself that finally, there wasn't such a need for textures... you play with shadows, no not even shadows but also shades to convey feelings even with the electronic characters and it works! truly!

You did a very good work with the lightning of the hole anim.

however, some things I think don't stick to the movie:
-I think you "overdid" some of the effects... in one part of an explosion there's a Zero-gravity effect... well it struck me on the first viewing and it doesn't seem quite in it's place.
-One of the rare textures we see is on the energy sphere that grows around the main character... I think it could have been more subtle...

But hey! these are two minor points in an overall excellent work!

keep it on!

You noticed two typical effects that I don't like. they're also part of the last effect added while deadline was almost reached :)
But I can't say how I regret that I let this zero gravity effect :) This explosion gave me LOTS of headaches :)
Also, thanks for your nice comments Dani :)

A 15 min short film made by one man like OOM, it's amazing.

Only with freeware like Blender, it's incredible.

But you do it.

Encore bravo :applause: :applause:

Godammnit!
It took so long to download oomweb.zip on 56k, and now it wont even work!
I have tried using DIVX player (v2), windows media player (with Divx codec 5.0.2), winamp, and quicktime to view it. With each one, I get something different sound-wise, but on each it is just black...and ive tried everything i can think of.
Any suggestions?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh

i just watched 3 min. of it, so this review might not be so accurate
but based on what i saw....

when the camera moves more than the actors/objects in a movie it doesn't mean it's a good thing

also, WHY O why are the Subtitles ALSO in French???
me no french, it would help if ppl could actually understand it

i'm sure the story is very nice, robot/emotion prolly.....

sorry i don't wanna be rude i'm just typing wut i saw (or DIDn't see in this case) i couldn't stand watching another blury scence

and comon even though i only saw 3 min. i DOUBT that u did 15 min. of dat in 2 months, unless you worked NON stop... AND you had all the models and everything finished

rating: fishy:surprised

I did it actually in 2 monthes, with very few sleep and still working during day.
But I have to admit that during December and the half of january, I had holidays so I could work more on it.
The work started around 25 november, and ended january the 20th (cause of the contest deadline)

For people having trouble watching it it was encoded with DIvx 5.03

For people who don't understand french, I'm currently working on a US version. Also a japanese version will come later.

Thanks for the comments.

Oh sorry, I didn't answer about blurry.
I'm sorry you didn't like it, but it was necessary to me to put all this blurry look. it makes sense as it is about mental trip, and memories. I needed the audience to be unconfortable with it.
It wasn't a DOF setting mistake :)
But I can understand it doesn't suit to everyone.

Sorry again :)
I forgot to answer this one :
All models were made during the production except 2 buildings which appear in one few second shot, and are not the main composition of it, and the woman that you can see in the main website. All this was done before. But the woman finally wasn't used for this movie. But if I had to make the buildings again it would have taken me few days. I think Blender modeling is very quick (and building a building with repetitive shapes is very easy too :)

looking forward to the "English" version

since you said the "uncomfortable" feeling is what u were aiming/going for, "you hit the nail on the head dead on" or wutever the saying is...

Shirley, thanks for the downloadable version! I have been watching it over and over. I love the lighting and the models, everything.

Did you use the new toon/Blinn shading system? It looks like you used Blenders standard lighting system. How long id it take you to render an adverage scene frame for this animation?

Awesome work! Awesome.

Shirley, please update your first original post with links to the downloadable vesrion of OOM. Can you add a high res picture of a clip from the animation? I had some trouble finding it and got sidetracked by the realvideo version at first. I know that other Blender users are looking for it. Thanks.

Will you post a higher res video of this animation?
