Hi there,

I've been uv mapping for a while now but mostly have been doing architectural models. Now I'm trying to do characters and more organic objects like vines and trees and am finding the mapping process to be exceptionally painful and time consuming. :)

Can anyone point me in the direction of a website or offer me some insight into "best practices" as far as efficient organic mapping goes? Should I just purchase a plug in/program that does the work for me or can it be done within Maya with the tools at hand?

Thanks so much! I really appreciate anything you can contribute.

check out the unwrapping UVs (http://lounge.ego-farms.com/showthread.php?t=213) section of this link.
It is a series or organic modeling video tuts by Eric Maslowski which are very helpfull.
It has 3DSMax as its platform though but most rules should apply to maya as well.

I would also suggest checking out HeadUS UV Layout
(http://www.headus.com/au/home.html)
Takes the pain right out of UV'ing.

Cheers.
