Hey everyone!

I am going to animate my scene with a bsaketball player who is just going to dribble from midcourt and dunk his ball into the basket.
Not really done with the rigging so I thought id ask on how to takle the animation task.

First I thought of making a running cycle and going from ther but since he well accelerate and take un even steps I think it woill be alot easier to just use pose animation.

How would you guys do it?

Thanx

Hi there:

I think in your case, it's better to animate pose-to-pose. This way, you will have much more control over your character.

Unless you are going to animate more basketball games... in this case, it worth creating a walk/run/jump/... cycles. But if it is a one time animation, it's better pose-to-pose.

What I do:

- leave the ball, face and the secondary animations to the end
- animate first your character (playing with an imaginary ball)
- watch some video references in order to create a good camera movement/change... I always start creating and position my cameras (a storyboard would be perfect).

You create your cameras first because you will need to think about things like line of action, staging, composition, etc... so it's always better to have all your cameras first.

- break down your character animation into main poses. Every walk/run/jump/turn/... has a star and end pose. I would begin with these poses, so I can think about my timming and make any necessary changes to it.
- After I am happy about the timming, I would animate the passing poses... poses that are necessary to link the main poses.... :)
- and so on... until you get your character fully animated.

Always remember to look through your cameras to see if the character is in the right pose for that camera.

- After I finish the character, I would animate the ball, the face, eyes, refine the hand animation (to fit the ball form) and all the little (but very important) things

I hope it helps... :)
