Hello everyone.

I am looking for a way of animating my character that is in the image below. I tend to model and not animate but my current project requires me to animate.

Now my issue is i need to animate the body bending but also i would like to be able to adjust the LED lights as though they are an eyebrow as the brief is all about showing emotions. Any tips would be very helpful.

Many thanks,

Liam

Nice model... :)

Well, of course you can rig it with bones and deformers based on splines, and everything else, but it will be a lot of work.

If your model will just bend its "leg" and move the LEDs to create the eyebrow effect, you can work with a more simplified approach.

For the "leg":
- you can apply a BEND deformer
- match the center of the BEND def. with the base of the "leg"
- in the BEND attributes, change the Low Bound value to 0
- Animate the Curvature and the Rotate Y att. of the BEND def.
Note that this is a very, very simple approach of the "leg" animation.

For the eyebrow effect:
- each LED looks like a small sphere to me.
- you can change the Pivot Point of each LED to match the center of the "head"
- animating the Rotate att. of the LEDs will move them along the surface of the "head"

In order to this workflow work properly, all the LEDs must be childs of the "head" and the "head" must be child of the "leg" before apply the bend deform.

It's just an alternative to the rig process (which is the correct way). But, for simple animation, it could work.

Of course you have other objects involved... so I do not know if this ideas will work or not in your case... It's just an idea... :)
Maybe someone else come up with other (better) idea...

thank you that is a brilliant idea. I was trying to get the joint method to work. I managed to use a joint and script (select -hi) for a very nice bend effect but the LED's became almost impossible to animate so i will try this method, thank you very much :D
