View Full Version : .gif materials
Kalee 03-05-2008, 04:40 AM Hi guys,
I was wondering, is it possible to import moving .gif files and using them as a background. Ik have imported my .gif files on a difuse layer of a material and added this a plane. But the animation doesn't seem to work wile rendering. Is it just not possible or is there something I'm overlooking.
Cheers,
K

I am not sure exactly. I am a student and new at modeling, though pretty good for only a few months at it. What program are you using and what exactly are you trying to do?

It's just a normal plane with a material attached to it. The material is a moving background, which is the .gif file. I created the .gif in Photoshop and just imported it into max. I tested the gif and it works normally, but once I render it in max9 I only get a still of the first frame through the whole animation. There's suppose to be a boat crossing the water (not that that matters, considering I can't see it :P). But no worries, I just made a moving boat it front of th background, instead of the gif that also works :P, just takes longer

Hmm. I'm not sure, as I've never tried it in max. Let alone max 9, i use max5 =P, kind of a cheap school lol. But I'm glad you got something to work though.

try using an .avi file if you want an animated background...I know that works for sure

It depends on whether or not Max actually reads GIF animation (and I am guessing it probably doesn't). Your best bet (for best quality) would be to have the animation as an image sequence, and import that to use as your texture. I am sure that Max has this option somewhere, within the Select Bitmap Image file dialog.

Thanks alot guys and girls. The .avi I already knew. Leigh is probably right in her assumption that max doesn't read and animation sequence, I'm proof of that. I'll have look at the image sequence within bitmap properties. The point was to not have to make a .avi file, try getting the same results with less resourses. In this case the image sequence if I can find it :P

I can check once I get to school tomorrow and post a reply here. I think that you maybe able to do as the others said above with the image sequence. If not then I would have no idea what to do other than the .avi file. but if worst comes to worst then its what you need to do. Max doesnt allow for many convienences in some aspects. Like I said though, I'll get back to you on it for sure if I can figure that or something else out.

Did you read my reply above? Even a quick Google search will demonstrate how to load an image sequence into Max. I hate to sound rude, but if you have nothing constructive to say, you shouldn't post, because it ends up making you look bad.
