View Full Version : Character - Wizard, half-fiend
Nightwing 05-05-2003, 10:07 AM Hiya.
Some shots of my current WIP, a half-fiend (Tiefling) wizard. Modelling in Lightwave (my 2nd character), textures painted in photoshop. Been working on this guy for the past few weeks, evenings mostly.
I've still got a lot to do, he has no eyelashes, eyebrows are temporary, and the mouth needs work (I'm so useless at modelling mouths). I've since remodelled his horns to be more elongated, like bony protuberances more than these little things, and the work on his skin continues.......got so much to learn when it comes to texturing! Tattoo is inspired by Blade and Darth Maul...probably going to change that as well :wip:
Anyway here's the latest renders.

Thanks Otos :)
As for your friend, hope he doesn't have horns!
Updated the renders with more recent ones....I'd uploaded shots from a few days ago, doh :)
I've started modelling a wizard's cloak/robe for him, will post some renders once I have gotten to texturing it...dunno about an entire body, this is meant to be a head study, but eventually he'll have some jewellery (amulet, earrings) as well.

Awesome work here. I see you mention "Tiefling" - is this related to D&D?
Peace. :buttrock:

Thanks Pharaun!
Yep it's related to D&D....I decided to have a bash at recreating the character I started recently in a new campaign I am playing with some friends :)

Cheers Pharaun :D
Gonna need the luck I think....aiming for a fair amount of realism here and I still have a way to go. I'll post some updates tomorrow, including a test render of his robe.....

Here's a quick test render of his robe. I've started painting the texture, will feature some pretty intricate trim and detailing, if I can work out how to map it correctly :)
Lighting is not great I know, but I'm still experimenting with that. Need to revisit his mouth but as usual I got snowed under here at work....curse people who go on vacation leaving me with their half-finished designs :)
More later (or as soon as I can find some spare time).

The textures looks a bit blurred. Espesially
around the mouth. Other than that: Great model!

Thanks Sambo :)
Yep the texture definitely needs work. I'm running with a cylindrical projection at the mo, but the UV's need tweaking, you'll notice some stretching on the sides of his nose as well.
I guess it doesn't help that I'm posting renders with DOF....I'll slap up some updated renders a bit later which will show more skin detail.

I know you are already texturing, but don't you think the ears are a bit too meaty. It'd add more character to your model if they were a bit more human like (not the pointy bit)

good!
I like the genaral look.....and morphology of the head, too.

You might want to sort the jaw bone out somewhat....it should "realism wise" stretch back to the base of the ear..but at the moment stops an inch or so away from it...also the angle of it seems too high and gives the face more of a female look to it...these are just my observations:) good stuff so far

He looks like thE DreaDloRd! :annoyed:

Thanks for the replies :)
maxmare: Do you mean where the ear emanates from the head? I'll have a look at that. Idea is that he'd look human but also be subtly "other", if you know what I mean.
cutnpaste: Thanks!
Daniel: Good point, I'll have a look at moving his jawline somewhat. I wanted him to have pretty angular features, but I'll experiment with the slant as well.
schmu_20mol: Thanks, and yeah he might just do that :)
Zvan: who's the dreadlord?

Like his face, don't like his horns and mouth..sorry

No need to be sorry :)
I don't like the mouth myself, but as I mentioned in my first post (I think) I'm not particularly good at modelling mouths.....the horns have already changed, I just need to adjust the textures before re-rendering.
I'll post the updated version soon (I hope....*crosses fingers*)

Had some time last night to work on the mesh a bit. Have taken some of your comments into account....adjusted the starting point (pivot) of the jawbone somewhat but retained the angle, ears are thinner, started reworking his mouth, corners still need help but I think I'm on the right track now. Also reworked the horns somewhat....am thinking they're more like bony extrusions of his skull than typical horns...am debating whether he should have similar stuff on the sides of his jaw.
Here's a wire shot of the side:

Minor update.
Gee it's been a while, still working on this guy's skin when I have time....here's the current render. Just not finding much spare time to work on him at the mo
I've repainted most of the skin, tweaked the lighting significantly, and his eyebrows need a lot of work :D
Gotta finish him soon cos I need to try something new!
