Hello all,
I am currently trying to find a good texture for a globe. Everywhere I look I find great textures for Earth, but I am looking for some with actual countries drawn in. Anybody have an idea of where I might find some? Thanks.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm looking for basically the same thing. I'm looking for an 'old world' style map to make a globe with. I'll post a link if I find something, but this way hopefully there will be some other folks willing offer some help.

- Edit -

Found a useful link you might be interested in;

That link could be worthless due to the fact that the image they have on the site is compressed to the point of destruction, and even if you ordered it you couldn't scan it.
Buying it to take a digital photo of it seems like overkill.

Go to either a school supply store, or to a school.
Find one of those huge world maps that rolls up above the blackboard.

Then take a digital photo of it because you'll be hard pressed to find a scanner that could scan it.
If you have kids or young siblings, pre-configure your camera for the picture and give it to them to take a photo in geography class.
If you found one at a store, you could probably get away with taking a photo of it without issue.
Tell the clerk that you want to buy one for your kid but you don't know if it's the right model.
They'd probably have no problem with it.
Maybe a travel agency would let you.

There's a possibility that you could find one on an encyclopedia CD-ROM.

Try this-map (http://pubs.usgs.gov/imap/2800/TDPfront.pdf)
It's a pdf but you can extract it using acrobat pro.

Is the right one dependant on color?
Meaning is the blue color wrong? Does it have to be a certain color?

Try these maps (http://digital-vector-maps.com/WORLD/RW-1057-World-Maps.htm)
They're actually in adobe illustrator and pdf format, which means the illustrator one is in vector format so you can scale them with no loss in quality at all.
One of them is a blank map in B&W so you can add the color AND text.
You have to buy them, but some are B&W and you could color them yourself.
There's many types so I'm sure one of them is what you're looking for.

Go to http://maps.google.com/ and zoom all the way out. :) It has options for terrain, etc. http://earth.google.com/ software gives you an even better view.

Dtox - Using what they had on that link I was able to make an old world style globe with sufficient resolution (see attached), but I guess it really depends on the resolution level you need and how close up you have to be. Thanks for the links though... lots more material to work with from those.

mbietsch - Did you get what you needed from these links?
